Our Spanish school’s first year
¡Feliz cumpleaños! It is our school’s birthday! One year ago we launched Spanish Marks with the vision of providing Spanish lessons to students all over the world through live online classrooms. We wanted to create a school with a difference – one which not only helped people learn Spanish, but also has an ethical focus, supporting and setting up charitable projects in Guatemala.
We couldn’t have asked for a more exciting first year! Here are some of our highlights:
Growing our student family, so that our teachers now connect with students from worldwide locations, including UK, Australia, USA, Dubai and Grenada!
We’ve worked closely with Asociacion Fatima, a charity in Guatemala which helps over 250 families in Guatemala at risk of malnutrition.
In the past year, we have teamed up with them to:
1) Help them set up their own website so that they can grow organically.
2) Donated funds for transportation of donated goods to the charity
3) Fixed the charity’s roof so that there is now a space for local women to sell their handicraft.
Teaming up with 2 local schools in Guatemala, Las Barrancas and Caserio Chanshenel, to encourage writing talent amongst their students. We have set up a monthly writing competition and donate funds to the winning student’s school.
Setting up our ‘Learn with a Friend‘ package meaning that you can now learn Spanish in group lessons, as well as one-to-one!
Putting together exciting plans to launch work experience placements in Guatemala, combined with pre-departure Spanish lessons! The placements will be in the fields of teaching, health, human rights, economic development or environment. Keep an eye out on our website for further updates about the launch of our work experience placements!
One year has gone by in a flash, with so many different experiences for our school. We look forward to what the next year brings!
