Spanish Regular Verbs in Present Indicative Tense

Verbs are words that indicate an action or emotion within a sentence. In Spanish verbs are divided into the following modes; indicative, conditional, imperative and subjunctive.
The present indicative tense is used to refer to actions that take place in the present.

Verbs are classified according to their endings:

– AR
Hablar (To speak)

– ER
Comer (To eat)

– IR
Vivir (To live)

An infinitive verb is a verb that is not conjugated in any tense. Infinitive verbs are divided into two parts: stems and endings:

 Stem   Ending 
 Habl  ar
 Com  er
 Viv  ir

 

For present indicative tenses, there are regular and irregular verbs.

  • Regular verbs do not change their stems when conjugated.
  • Irregular verbs change their stems when conjugated.

Regular verbs that end in -AR:

Yo  Hablo  I speak
 Hablas  You speak
Él / Ella / Usted  Habla  He / She / You  (formal) speak
Nosotros  Hablamos   We speak
Vosotros  Habláis  You (plural) speak
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes  Hablan  They / You (formal  plural) speak

Regular verbs that end in -ER:

Yo  Como  I eat
 Comes  You eat
Él / Ella / Usted  Come  He / She / You (formal) eat
Nosotros  Comemos   We eat
Vosotros  Coméis  You (plural) eat
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes  Comen  They / You (formal plural) eat

Regular verbs that end in -IR:

Yo  Vivo  I live
 Vives  You live
Él / Ella / Usted  Vive  He / She / You (formal) live
Nosotros  Vivimos   We live
Vosotros  Vivís  You (plural) live
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes  Viven  They / You (formal plural) live
