Our Story

We are Spanish Marks - an ethically conscious online Spanish school based in Guatemala and the UK.

Founder of Spanish Marks

¡Hola! we are Rustom and Phiroza, siblings from London. Here's our story of how we created the online Spanish school, Spanish Marks. Exploring new cultures was ingrained into us from a young age. In 2011 Rustom went to work for a non-profit organisation in Guatemala and quickly decided to call it his home.

Based in Quetzaltenango, with Spanish schools on every street, Rustom partnered with local Spanish teacher Sandy. With his background in the not-for-profit sector, and Sandy’s expertise in language training, the idea to create an ethical online Spanish school was born.

Our school's vision

We provide expert Spanish tuition and flexible lessons, whilst also giving back to local communities in Guatemala.

**Covid-19 has led to a humanitarian crisis in Guatemala impacting millions. We are fundraising for the Emergency Relief Effort**

Our Spanish lessons

We provide high-quality Spanish tuition through live online classrooms. Our Spanish and English speaking teachers are from Quetzaltenango, (Xela), a city known for its reputable language schools. They are passionate about teaching Spanish and provide private online tuition.

The online classroom allows you to learn from any location convenient for you, 24/7. Phiroza is based in London, and available for any type of student support.

We partner with local Guatemalan charities

We also aim to support local communities in Guatemala. Guatemala has a number of issues from chronic malnutrition to a lack of educational opportunities. We therefore contribute part of our school's profits towards local community projects. More information on our partnerships can be found here.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to deadly consequences for already-vulnerable communities in Guatemala. See how you can help on our Just Giving page.
