Education in Guatemala
Guatemala is known as the land of eternal spring, with a fascinating landscape of volcanoes, ancient ruins and colourful markets. Yet, a host of urgent challenges surround the country's educational system. Poor funding, a lack of adequate resources and limited teacher traning are endemic problems, particularly in rural areas. Many children are forced to drop out of school since their families cannot afford the costs of education. Indigenous girls are among the country's most disadvantaged group with limited educational opportunities and early marriage.
Types of Projects
Spanish Marks is partnered with the well-established charity, Asociación Fatima. The charity has been helping disadvantaged families and children in the Quetzaltenango region in Guatemala, for over 20 years.
The charity provides volunteering opportunities to work with any age range including teaching and mentoring primary school children. There are also opportunities to set up educational workshops for adults, including on women's rights, nutrition, business mentoring, and many more.
