Education in Guatemala

Guatemala is known as the land of eternal spring, with a fascinating landscape of volcanoes, ancient ruins and colourful markets. Yet, a host of urgent challenges surround the country's educational system. Poor funding, a lack of adequate resources and limited teacher traning are endemic problems, particularly in rural areas. Many children are forced to drop out of school since their families cannot afford the costs of education. Indigenous girls are among the country's most disadvantaged group with limited educational opportunities and early marriage.

Types of Projects

Spanish Marks is connected to a network of schools and organisations which help disadvantaged children and individuals. The need for volunteers is not only confined to academic areas, but can also encompass a variety of social areas, such as educating communities on women's rights, nutrition and business mentoring. Some placements also offer the opportunity to introduce your own programmes.
