Economic issues in Guatemala

Guatemala has been one of the strongest economic performers in Latin America in recent years. However, the country still suffers from inequality and widespread poverty. Constraints to economic development include government corruption, fragile protection of property rights and lack of access to long-term financing. As a result, many Guatemalans struggle to break out of the cycle of poverty.
