Volunteer Work in Guatemala

Tailored volunteering placements. Pre-departure Spanish lessons included.

Why volunteer abroad?

Join a volunteer placement in Guatemala and experience a country of immense beauty with soaring volcanoes, ancient Mayan ruins and colourful colonial towns.

However, there are deep-rooted problems from chronic malnutrition to a lack of educational opportunities. We connect volunteers with charities dedicated to the development of Guatemala.

Types of volunteering projects

Volunteer any time of the year. Flexible duration.

Volunteer in human rights, healthcare, education or economic development in Guatemala. Work in an area that interests you and where you can make a real difference.

We place equal emphasis on both yourself and the host organisation benefitting from your time abroad. We take the time to understand your skills and reasons for volunteering, to then build a unique profile for you. We then match your profile to tailored projects which benefit both yourself and the charity you will be volunteering with.

Our volunteer programs are with charities and NGOs in Guatemala tackling far-reaching social, human and environmental issues. All backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Full cultural immersion

Spanish Lessons Included

For all projects, Spanish lessons are included so you can fully immerse yourself in local life.

We will also translate your CV into Spanish.

Spanish is the official language spoken in Guatemala and these lessons will ensure you make the most out of your time abroad. All levels are taught, from beginners to intermediate.

See and speak to your tutor in an online classroom. Learn from any location convenient for you. Spanish lessons are taken before you leave for Guatemala.

Volunteer Case Studies

Nicole, Women & Children Rights Placement

"I worked in Guatemala with a NGO for almost 3 months and loved every minute of it. I worked in their development office focusing on women's and children’s rights. I held a workshop on Period Poverty, and completed a funding application that saw the charity awarded 40,000 US dollars."

Hannah, Human rights placement:

"I got a lot out of this experience – both personally and professionally...I want to work in public international law. The placement showed that I am dedicated to community service, willing and able to travel"

Jane, Healthcare placement:

"It has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and together with the help and support of Spanish Marks and the charity, I was able to contribute to a charity which helps an amazing rural community of around 500 families."
