Human Rights Volunteering - Nicole's placement on Women and Children's Rights

I worked in Guatemala with Caras Alegres for almost 3 months and loved every minute of it. I worked in their development office focusing on women's and children’s rights.

I held a workshop on Period Poverty, and I completed a funding application that saw the charity awarded 40,000 US dollars.

I went on multiple ‘home visits’ where I got to see the children in the community and meet their families. The staff at the charity were amazing and made me feel welcome from the very first day. As a bonus, I improved my Spanish and got to practice speaking every day! I arranged all of this through Rustom at Spanish Marks who was extremely supportive throughout the entire process and became a good friend during my time in Guatemala. I couldn’t recommend this whole experience enough – it is amazing!

Healthcare Volunteering - Jane's story in tackling malnutrition

Jane, a trained nutritionist, used her skills to help local communities in rural Guatemala. She tells her story: from monitoring and weighing babies to setting up personal hygiene workshops, and making lasting connections.

Conservation Volunteering - Dani's time with former guerillas

Dani was placed with a co-operative community of families of former guerilla fighers who now grow and market organic coffee. Dani learnt coffee harvesting techniques as well as helping the co-operative develop agritourism.

Teach Abroad - Kat's experience with communities in rural Guatemala

Kat, a finance analyst from London, volunteered at the charity Asociación Fatima helping to set up after-school activities for disadvantaged children. The experience also helped her to improve her Spanish.
