Championing Change: Nicole’s Supports Women & Children’s Rights in Guatemala
We organised a Human Rights volunteering placement for Nicole in Guatemala. Here's her story:
I worked with a NGO in Guatemala for almost 3 months and loved every minute of it. I worked in their development office focusing on women's and children’s rights. I held a workshop on Period Poverty, and I completed a funding application that saw the charity awarded 40,000 US dollars.
I went on multiple ‘home visits’ where I got to see the children in the community and meet their families. The staff at the charity were amazing and made me feel welcome from the very first day. As a bonus, I improved my Spanish and got to practice speaking every day!
I arranged all of this through Rustom at Spanish Marks who was extremely supportive throughout the entire process and became a good friend during my time in Guatemala. I couldn’t recommend this whole experience enough – it is amazing!
