Conservation Placements Abroad
Volunteer in conservation projects in Guatemala, from rehabilitating rare species to organic coffee farming. Pre-departure Spanish lessons included.
Why Volunteer in Guatemala
Guatemala is one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world, with 14 different eco-regions, from sub-tropical forests to soaring volcanoes, jungles and beaches. However, these areas face threats from over-exploitation of natural resources. Many wildlife species such as sea turtles are threatened by environmental pollution and contamination, whilst other animals such as rare birds and monkeys fall prey to poaching.
Types of Conservation Projects
Spanish Marks is connected to a database of organisations across Guatemala from the Highlands to mountains or coastal areas. Project examples include rescue, rehabilitation and release of rare species, organic coffee farming or creating campaigns to promote recycling in schools and villages. Work alongside environmentalists, biologists and community councils to make an important contribution to Guatemala’s environmental sector.
